Dr Ugwu is a lecturer in the Department of Political Science, Federal University of Lafia, Nasarawa State, Nigeria. He trained as a professional mediator in Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC), Accra, Ghana. Dr Ugwu is a member of the Nigerian Political Science Association (NPSA). He is an active researcher with publications in areas of International Relations, Civil Society and Development, Elections and Security, Gender and Peace Studies.

Presently he is in a team that won a grant to evaluate the header-farmer conflicts in Benue and Nasarawa States in Nigeria. He also won a grant to enable him present his evaluation of Nigeria’s National Social Investment Programme (N-SIP) and attainment of Sustainable Development Goal 1 during an International Conference on Research in African Challenges (ICRAC) in American University in Cairo, Egypt in December, 2019. Dr. Ugwu is a team player and lover of sports.
